Description:
The
Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library seeks a knowledgeable,
energetic, motivated and service-oriented individual to deliver
innovative research and instructional services and to develop print and
electronic collections in the areas of cell biology, biochemistry, and
human genetics. The librarian in this position will join a creative,
enthusiastic, and user-oriented Reference and Instructional Services
Department.
The Biomedical Research Librarian will work closely with faculty,
students and administrators to support research initiatives, academic
endeavors, and grant activities in the assigned subject areas. The main
focus of this position will be to establish a strong service liaison
with basic sciences departments to gauge their information needs and to
promote library resources and services.
Responsibilities:

Provide general and specialized reference service at the desk,
electronically and on the telephone.

Provide specialized research consultations.
-
Plan, develop and provide subject-based specialized instruction to
support the research and teaching needs of the faculty and students
in the assigned subject areas.

Serve as a liaison to the faculty and students in these areas,
ensuring that the information needs of the assigned population are
met.

Collaborate and participate in educational initiatives at the WHSC
Library.
-
Select, assess, and manage collections and resources in the assigned
subject areas. Develop and update subject guides, web pages,
tutorials, etc.
Qualifications:
-
Required: ALA-accredited MLS and documented post-graduate experience
in the biological sciences, or Masters or PhD degree in the
biological sciences and prior experience in libraries.

Knowledge of current developments in the biological sciences
-
Understanding and knowledge of the scholarly research communication
processes
-
Ability to instruct and assist users in specialized resources, such
as Entrez, Ensembl, Blast, etc.

Strong interest and skills in electronic resources, instructional
technology, multimedia resources and services, especially in the
subjects assigned
-
Strong interest and ability to work collaboratively with faculty and
students
-
Excellent analytical, organizational, time and project management
skills
-
Ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and
as a team member
-
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Other: Salary:
Starting at $42,000 depending on education and experience, with 24
vacation days and excellent fringe benefits, including TIAA/CREF as
eligible.
About the library: The Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library, one of
five libraries on the Emory campus, is housed at 1462 Clifton Road, NE.
Clinical branch libraries are maintained in Emory University Hospital
and in the Glenn Memorial Building opposite Grady Memorial Hospital. The
House Staff/Medical Student Learning Center, located on the 16th floor
of Grady Memorial Hospital, provides 24-hour access to health sciences
information.
The library collects resources to support the Schools of Medicine,
including Allied Health programs, Nursing, Public Health, and the
Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences. The library
serves Emory students, faculty, staff, and other eligible users with a
collection of more than 225,000 volumes, 1200 current print periodicals,
and access to over 38,000 electronic journal titles in the campus
e-journals database. A computer lab and electronic classroom are
available. Wireless is available throughout the library.
The library is open seven days a week with a schedule of 90 hours.
Facilities for study and research include group study rooms and faculty
carrels. Services include document delivery, circulation, reference,
electronic reserves, multi-media development and support, instruction in
information retrieval and management, individual consultations, clinical
librarianship and instructional design. The library participates in the
National Network of Libraries of Medicine. STAFF: 12 librarians, 24 FTE
staff and 2 FTE students
